Namecheap: Grant Domain Access
How to update nameservers or share domain access in your Namecheap account. This takes about 5 minutes and only needs to be done once.
Before you start
- A Namecheap account with login credentials
- Your domain registered with Namecheap
- The nameserver addresses we provide (we’ll send these to you separately)
Steps
-
Sign in to your Namecheap account
Go to
namecheap.comand click Sign In in the top-right corner. Enter your Namecheap username and password. If you have two-factor authentication enabled, you’ll also need access to your authentication app or phone.Tip: Your username is not your email address. If you’re not sure what it is, click Forgot Password and Namecheap will send your username and a reset link to the email on file. -
Go to your Domain List
Once logged in, click Domain List in the left sidebar. This shows all the domains you own in your Namecheap account. If you have several domains, you can use the search bar at the top to find the right one.
-
Click Manage next to your domain
Find the domain you’d like us to work with and click the Manage button on the right side of that row. This opens the settings page for that specific domain.
-
Open the DNS tab and find Nameservers
On the domain management page, you’ll see several tabs near the top. Click the tab that says DNS (it may also appear as Advanced DNS or Domain depending on your account layout). Look for a section labeled Nameservers.
-
Switch to Custom DNS
In the Nameservers section, you’ll see a dropdown that likely says Namecheap BasicDNS or Namecheap Web Hosting DNS. Click that dropdown and select Custom DNS.
Two empty input fields will appear where you can enter new nameserver addresses.
-
Enter our nameservers and save
Type or paste the nameserver addresses we sent you into the input fields, one per line. If there are more than two, click the Add Nameserver button (or the small + icon) to add more fields.
Once all the addresses are entered, click the green checkmark button (or Save) to apply the changes. Namecheap will show a confirmation message.
The update typically takes a few hours to take effect, but may take up to 48 hours. We’ll confirm on our end when everything is connected.
Tip: Copy and paste the nameserver addresses from our email to avoid typos. Even a small mistake (like a missing dot) will prevent the connection from working.
Common Issues
I can’t find my domain in the list
NaN
The Custom DNS option isn’t showing up
Some Namecheap hosting plans lock the nameserver dropdown. If you see a message about your hosting plan controlling DNS, you may need to switch to the Domain tab (instead of Advanced DNS) to find the nameserver settings. If the dropdown is grayed out, try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache.
I saved the nameservers but the changes haven’t taken effect
DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to fully propagate across the internet. This is normal. You don’t need to make any additional changes. We’re monitoring on our end and will let you know as soon as the connection is live.
