Google Analytics: Add a User
How to grant us access to your Google Analytics account so we can monitor your website performance. This takes about 2 minutes.
Before you start
- A Google account with admin access to your Google Analytics property
- Our email address (we’ll provide this)
Steps
-
Sign in to Google Analytics
Open your browser and go to
analytics.google.com. Sign in with the Google account that has admin access to your website’s analytics. If you’re already signed in to Google, it should open right away. -
Open the Admin panel
Look for the gear icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen. This is the Admin section where all account settings live. Click it to open the admin panel.
-
Go to Account Access Management
In the Account column (the first column on the left), click Account Access Management. This is where you manage who can see and edit your analytics data.
-
Start adding a new user
Click the blue + button in the upper-right corner of the access management page, then select Add users from the dropdown.
-
Enter our email address
Type in the email address we provided. Make sure “Notify new users by email” is checked so we get a confirmation.
-
Select the access role and click Add
Choose the role we asked for, either Analyst or Editor, then click Add in the upper-right corner. We’ll get an email confirming the access.
Tip: Analyst gives us read-only access to view reports. Editor lets us create custom reports and set up goals. We’ll tell you which one we need for your project.
Common Issues
I don’t see the Admin gear icon
You may not have admin-level access on this Google Analytics account. Only administrators can add new users. If someone else set up analytics for your website, ask them to either add us directly or upgrade your access to Administrator.
I’m not sure which Google Analytics property to use
When you sign in to analytics.google.com,
look at the property name at the top of the page. It should match your website
URL or business name. If you see multiple properties, pick the one that shows
your website’s domain name. If you’re unsure, send us a screenshot
and we’ll help you identify the right one.
I see GA4 and Universal Analytics. Which one do I use?
GA4 (Google Analytics 4) is the current version. Universal Analytics stopped processing data in July 2023. If you see both, use the GA4 property. It will usually say “GA4” next to the property name, or the property ID will start with a number instead of “UA-”.
